Strengths

Intuitive drag-and-drop visual workspace that's easy to learn
Strong real-time collaboration for remote teams
Large library of templates for meetings, planning, and workshops
AI tools that help summarize and organize brainstorming content
Works well for facilitating structured team sessions

Weaknesses

Per-seat pricing gets expensive as your team grows
Free plan limits the number of active murals you can have
Can feel like overkill for teams with simple collaboration needs
Less useful if your team rarely does visual or workshop-style work

Key features

Create shared digital whiteboards for brainstorming and planning
Collaborate with your team in real time, even across different locations
Use pre-built templates for meetings, retrospectives, and strategy sessions
Add sticky notes, images, diagrams, and text to organize ideas visually
Facilitate structured workshops with built-in timer and facilitation tools
Integrate with tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Google Workspace

AI features

Mural includes AI tools that can help summarize sticky notes, generate ideas, and organize content on your board automatically. These features save time during brainstorming sessions by grouping related ideas and drafting outlines based on your input.

STOA verdict

Mural is best for small teams that work remotely and need a shared space to brainstorm, plan projects, or run workshops together. The visual whiteboard format makes it easy to organize ideas and collaborate in real time, but the free plan is limited and paid plans at $9.99 per user per month can add up quickly for growing teams. If your team regularly does creative or strategic work together online, it's worth trying — just watch your seat count.
