What it does

Beehiiv is an all-in-one newsletter platform built by early Morning Brew employees who understood exactly what creators and businesses need to grow an email audience. It combines a newsletter editor, a no-code website builder, and a built-in ad network into a single platform. You write your newsletter, publish it to your website, grow your subscriber list, and earn money from ads — all without switching tools. The platform powers a large number of newsletters and earns strong customer ratings. Beehiiv stands apart from competitors like Mailchimp and Substack with growth tools: a recommendation network where newsletters promote each other, a Boosts network for paid subscriber acquisition, referral programs, and detailed analytics. The free Launch plan supports up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited email sends, custom domains, and an AI website designer. Beehiiv takes 0% of your paid subscription revenue on Scale and above, unlike Substack's 10% cut.

Strengths

Free plan with 2,500 subscribers and unlimited sends — no credit card required
0% take rate on paid subscriptions (Scale+), versus Substack's 10% cut
Built-in ad network handles sponsorship sales so you earn without cold-pitching brands
AI writing assistant, spell check, tone adjustment, translation, and image generation in-editor
Custom domains and website builder included free

Weaknesses

Scale plan at $43/month may feel steep for businesses with small lists under 1,000
No native SMS or push notification support — email only
Ad network revenue depends on niche and audience size — small lists earn little
No A/B testing on the free plan limits optimization

Key features

Send unlimited emails to up to 2,500 subscribers on the free plan
Build a custom website with the no-code AI website designer — included free
Monetize through the built-in ad network connecting you with global brands
Grow your list with the recommendation network, Boosts, and referral programs
Automate subscriber journeys with email sequences, surveys, and segmentation

AI features

Beehiiv AI includes a writing assistant that drafts newsletter content with configurable tone and length. In-editor AI tools simplify, shorten, extend, or change tone. AI image generator creates visuals without leaving the editor. AI translation converts newsletters for international audiences. AI website designer generates a complete newsletter site in minutes.

STOA verdict

Beehiiv is the best newsletter platform for small businesses that want to grow and monetize an email audience without stitching together multiple tools. The free tier is genuinely useful, the ad network removes the headache of finding sponsors, and the 0% take rate puts more money in your pocket than Substack.
